The Department of Botany was started in the year 1968, with the B. Sc. Botany course and now has PG and M.Phil. programme. The curriculum for the B.Sc. Botany Programme is designed with an aim of encouraging broad instructional goals and to support the growing demands and challenging trends in the educational scenario. It targets at providing an environment that encourages, promotes and stimulates the intellectual, professional and personal development of the student. Every year the department ensures a minimum of 5 university ranks which is indeed a pride to the department. Botanical excursions, field visits, institutional visits, and exhibitions are organized in view to study the wild plant diversity, forest ecosystem and to inculcate the research knowledge. A medicinal garden, herbarium cupboard and a vermicompost unit is maintained by the staff and students of the department. An MoU has been signed with the Horticultural department of Tamil Nadu for the benefit of the students.

To develop scientific and technological capabilities.
To encourage students to bring out their hidden talents by instilling values in budding botanists so that the college will step in to getting one of the centres of Excellence in Botany.
To prepare the students holistically by imparting profound knowledge and various life skills through modern technology in the burgeoning areas of Plant sciences.
MISSION
To strengthen the teaching, learning and research process through herbarium, botanical tours, field and nursery trips, industrial / institutional visits etc.
To generate wisdom and produce good future scientists, environmentalists and nature lovers by applying both conventional and non conventional tools.
