Department of Mathematics – A Glorious Journey
Established in 1968 under the visionary leadership of Ms. Vasantha C, the Department of Mathematics began its journey with a modest strength of four
students. Over the years, it has grown into a dynamic centre of academic excellence, nurturing generations of students in the pursuit of knowledge and critical thinking. The department has consistently expanded its academic horizons, introducing the M.Sc. programme in 2004, followed by M.Phil. and Ph.D. (Part- time) programmes in 2013-2014, and the Ph.D. (Full-time) programme in 2022- 2023. The Mathematics Club has played a vital role in fostering curiosity and deeper engagement with the subject beyond the classroom.Rooted in its commitment to social responsibility, the department has actively engaged in outreach initiatives. Students regularly visit nearby schools to support Mathematics learning and organize educational activities. Extension efforts have further included medical camps, awareness programmes, and service in tribal and adopted villages, shaping students into socially conscious individuals. The department also promotes academic and research excellence through conferences, seminars, and workshops. Faculty members contribute significantly to the academic community through publications in reputed journals and presentations at national and international forums. Educational and industrial visits, organized in collaboration with other departments, enrich students’ exposure and learning experience. As the institution celebrates its Diamond Jubilee, the Department of Mathematics proudly reflects on its rich legacy of growth, service, and excellence. With gratitude for the past and confidence in the future, the department remains committed to forming competent, innovative, and value-driven individuals who will continue to contribute meaningfully to society. On this joyous Diamond Jubilee, we thank God for the abundant blessings bestowed upon the department over the past decades.
