The expedition of the Department of Commerce commenced in the year 1981 with 50 students and Dr. P. Valsala heading the Department. The department has always strived for excellence since its inception. The faculty of the department unanimously believes that “Anything that is learnt with pleasure is never forgotten”. Hence conceiving ideas that would make the learning experience of the students an unforgettable one is kept in mind at every stage of planning and execution. The Department not only focuses on academics, but also trains them in various fields like curricular, extra-curricular, sports, extension, soft skills, employable skills and ultimately the overall development of a student is taken care of.

The Commerce Department was upgraded to a PG and Research Department in the year 2012. It is recognized as the first research center of the college offering UG, PG, M. Phil and Ph. D. courses.
