The department of History was started in the year 1966, affiliated to Madras University.The major objective of the programme is to define, explain major historical problems and to develop research skills. Civil services and TNPSC coaching classes are conducted by the department. The department of History at Providence also holds a Heritage Museum with a rare collection of artefacts.The department of History takes pride in securing University Ranks since inception.The department has established a Women's Studies Center in 2016 giving insight into Women's Rights and Empowerment. Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, Former President of India, visited our Heritage Museum in the year 2009. The PG programme of the programme was started in the year 2020.
